Diving Into The Journey Of Badrinath Temple

Introduction

Today, I want to share something exciting with you. A few weeks ago, my family and I visited a famous place called Badrinath Temple. It is a holy place and is located in the Garhwal hills in Chamoli district, near the Alaknanda River. Something incredible happened there, and it felt like heaven because of the wonderful experiences and weather. In this article, I’ll talk more about it and share my own experience.

History Of Badrinath Temple

Many stories are connected to this holy place. It was built by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century. Have you ever wondered how this place came to be? There are two stories about this temple.

One story is that this is the place where Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati lived. One day, while they were taking a walk, they found a crying child. Parvati felt emotional and decided to take care of the baby and fed him. They left him at home while she went with lord Shiva to bathe in hot water springs nearby. When they came back, they found the doors locked from the inside. After much thought, they decided to leave the place and go to Kedarnath.

Another story is that Lord Vishnu meditated for thousands of years to lessen the effect of poison. Goddess Laxmi provided shade to Lord Vishnu in the form of a Berry Tree to protect him from the harsh sun.

Way To Badrinath Temple

There are many ways to get to this holy temple. We took the route through Devprayag. We traveled in a car for the whole journey. First, we went to Devprayag, which took about 8 hours. Then we went to Srinagar and stayed in a hotel River Valley Resort located on ganges of Saraswati river. It was amazing experience and we spent the night there. The next morning, we finally reached the temple. It took 4 hours to get to Hotel Amritara, which is only 1 km away from the temple. Some people also visit the temple by helicopter.

Inside Badrinath Temple

The inside of the Badrinath Temple has two important areas. One is the worship hall where the statue of Lord Vishnu is placed, and the other is the assembly hall where people come to pray. The temple is built in a traditional style and has beautiful carvings and paintings on the walls and pillars. The main statue is made of black stone and is very holy to the people who visit. There are also smaller shrines inside for other Hindu gods and goddesses like Lord Shiva, and the goddesses Ganga and Yamuna.

Architecture of Temple

The architecture of the Badrinath Temple is an example of the North Indian architectural style, which is known for its unique carvings and paintings. The temple is built of large stone slabs and features a multi-tiered roof, with a shikhara tower that rises above the main sanctum. Once you enter in this temple there is a bridge through which devotees enter in an temple. Below that bridge hot springs of water are there both sides. It is believed that devotees should first take bath in the springs and then do darshan of lord Vishnu. There is separate chambers for men and women to take bath.

Conclusion

To sum up the trip to Badrinath Dham was a fantastic journey. We had a lot of great moments, but the best part was spending time together as a family during the long drive. We also visited other places during this trip, which I will talk about in other articles. The Badrinath Temple is a beautiful example of North Indian architecture. It has intricate carvings, paintings, and sculptures, and is important for its religious and spiritual significance.
